Teach Your Monster to Read

Teach Your Monster to Read is a fun website made to help beginning readers to have fun while learning letter sounds and phonics.

When you go to the website you will be asked to sign up.  The site is completely free, but signing up allows the website to track progress so your child can quit and then come back later and resume where they left off.    After signing up, the first thing to be done is to create a monster.  Don't worry, nothing scary or gory here.  Once the monster is created, a little story will start and your child will be asked to contribute to the story by helping the monster find letters and the learning of reading short words through phonics begins.  Its all very cute.  While playing, just when I thought the site was going to get repetitive and boring, a new element was brought in.

Some hints:  I found that the games didn't really come with instructions.  So, if your child likes figuring these sorts of games out by themselves, this site can be fun.  Otherwise, you may need to stay near to help them figure out how to play through the different activities.  Also, a basic knowledge of some letter sounds would help your child enjoy this site better.  This site seems to originate somewhere in the UK.  Therefore, a few spelling differences, though minor, may occur...just so you know.

I know my daughter is going to love this game!
